On Editing Ottoman Turkish tekke Poetry

چکیده


 Eşrefoğlu Rumi (d. 875/1469?) and Ümmî Kemal 880/1475?) are prominent practitioners of Ottoman Sufi (tekke) poetry—literature that emerged from the environment Anatolian orders. The parallel histories transmission their two divans help clarify details poets’ lives. Conversely, biographical facts may explain oddities those histories, which themselves also illuminate features late fifteenth- sixteenth-century religious political landscape increasing theological rigidity in face Safavid pressure probable persecution deemed beyond pale, still poorly understood. In light a recent essay by Walter Andrews on prevailing editing practices literature, I offer critique handling both divans. After noting previously unrecognized copies each, make suggestions for further study poems.
